What is ASCII Art?
ASCII art is a graphic design technique that uses printable characters from the ASCII standard to create images and visual compositions. Originally born from the limitations of early computer terminals, ASCII art has evolved into a distinctive art form used across programming culture, social media, and creative projects.
Our converter analyzes the brightness and color of each region in your image, then maps
those values to characters of varying density. Darker areas get denser characters like
@ and #, while lighter areas use sparse characters like
. and spaces. The result is a text-based representation that captures the
essence of your original image.
