GIF Quality Tips
- Keep clips short: 5-15 seconds produces the best balance of quality and file size
- Lower resolution: 320-480px wide is ideal for most GIFs shared online
- 10-15 fps: Looks smooth enough for most content while keeping file size down
- High quality mode: Uses palette generation with Floyd-Steinberg dithering for the best colors
- No limits: No rate limits, no watermarks, no account required
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. All conversion happens in your browser using FFmpeg WebAssembly. Your video never leaves your device, ensuring complete privacy.
What video formats are supported?
MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, and AVI are supported. Most video files from phones, cameras, and screen recordings will work. The maximum file size is 2 GB.
Why is my GIF so large?
GIFs are an uncompressed format, so they tend to be much larger than video files. To reduce size: trim to a shorter clip (5-15 seconds), lower the resolution (320-480px), reduce the frame rate (10 fps), or use the "Fast" quality mode.
What do the quality modes mean?
High generates an optimal color palette with Floyd-Steinberg dithering for the best visual quality. Medium uses palette generation without dithering for clean, sharp edges. Fast does a direct conversion without palette optimization, producing smaller files but with potentially visible color banding.
Can I trim the video before converting?
Yes. Use the trim controls to set start and end times in MM:SS format. Only the selected portion of the video will be converted to GIF. A clip duration badge shows exactly how long your selection is.
Is this tool really free?
Yes, completely free with no limitations. Since all processing happens in your browser, there are no server costs. No watermarks, no account required, and no rate limits.
