Frequently Asked Questions
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. All trimming happens in your browser using FFmpeg WebAssembly. Your video never leaves your device, ensuring complete privacy.
What video formats are supported?
MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, and AVI. The tool accepts any video file up to 2 GB that your browser can decode.
What is the difference between stream copy and re-encoding?
Stream copy extracts the video data without re-encoding - it's near-instant and produces zero quality loss. Re-encoding is only needed when converting between formats (e.g., MOV to WebM) and takes longer since every frame must be decoded and re-encoded.
Why might the trimmed clip start or end a few frames early?
With stream copy, FFmpeg must cut at keyframe boundaries. Video codecs only allow seeking to keyframes (typically every 1-5 seconds), so the actual start point may snap to the nearest preceding keyframe. For frame-exact trimming, choose a different output format to trigger re-encoding.
What is the maximum file size?
The maximum is 2 GB, limited by WebAssembly memory constraints. Stream copy mode handles large files efficiently since it doesn't need to decode video frames. For very large files, try our server-based video converter.
Is this tool really free?
Yes, completely free with no limitations. Since all processing happens in your browser, there are no server costs. No watermarks, no account required, and no rate limits.
